We will begin with the Children's program which will last over an hour. This will be followed by the Christmas meal.

Community Potluck: Everyone should bring a Main Dish, Dessert and something to drink. Remember Lithuanian Kučios traditions dictate no meat, but fish, grains, fruit and vegetables are OK.

Coffee, tea and utensils will be provided.

Children's Program: First time attendees, prepare your child with some type of talent to present to Santa, like a poem, song, play an instrument or any type of act. The children will be rewarded with a gift from Santa afterward.

Note to parents: please bring a gift for your child regardless if he or she performs. The gifts should be in a brown lunch bag with a bow or other ornament on top. Write your child’s name on the bag clearly so Santa can read it. Leave your child’s gift at the reception table to be placed in Santa’s bag.

Donation: Please leave a donation at our community table to help pay for the nights expenses.

I-84, 22 mi. East of Portland (exit 25),  located along the Columbia River

Bring a pot luck dish and drink, blankets (not sure if we will have tables), lawn chairs and towels if you are going swimming. This year we do not have a reservation so we will find a location as we arrive. If anyone is willing to get there before 12:00 and try to find some tables let me know (360-834-6988 or 605-2258). All others look for the Lithuanian flag or yellow/red/green colors.

* Piknikas [angl. picnic] - iškyla į užmiestį ar parką, dažniausiai su užkandžiais ir tam tikromis pramogomis. Sėkmingo pikniko paslaptis - paprastumas, planavimas ir reikalingų daiktų susipakavimas. Come join us for the 13th Annual Lithuanian Easter Traditions Day. An event for all ages where we will paint traditional Lithuanian Easter Eggs with Bees wax and dyes or you can bring your previously dyed eggs and scratch your designs in the centuries old folk way. A third and most interesting way of preparing your eggs is with burnt bees wax. Master Petras Astrauskas will demonstrate this method.

Games: We have adapted versions of  Lithuanian village games and traditions for all ages.

Egg roll: This village tradition where the children go from village to village to compete for eggs. They roll the eggs from boards and the one who hits another egg would be able to claim it for him/her self, much the same as children play for marbles. We have adapted the game to be the one who rolls the furthest wins. For winners of first, second and third places (boys and girls category) there are small prizes to chose from all other children will receive Easter candy .

Egg smash: For adults we have the egg smash. In this traditional custom on Easter morning or the Easter meal each family member would take a hard-boiled egg and hit the egg together with your neighbor. The one whose egg cracks loses and the game continues until there is one winner. Everyone will get in a large circle and pair up. One by one the circle gets smaller until we only have two people left. The strongest egg will win and receive a Lithuanian Porcupine cake.

What to bring:
Hard boiled eggs, I would suggest at least six eggs per person if not more.
A pencil with an eraser, one for each member of your group (we will supply pins to stick in the eraser).
A roll of paper towels, what you don’t use  you can take back home.
Dyes, burners and other supplies will be provided

Dessert potluck event: Everyone is asked to bring a homemade cake, cookies or other sweets and a bottle of juice or soda pop. Unless otherwise asked please do not bring any other food other then dessert. Coffee and tea will be supplied. As always it is BYO wine or other. 

Raffle for Cancer: We will be raffling Lithuanian Easter Eggs by Petras Astrauskas. All proceeds will benefit Paguoda - a children’s Cancer Society in Lithuania. If you can’t make it to our event but want to donate or purchase some raffle tickets in advance please write to Vilius Zalpys at zalpiai999@aol.com

Save labiau priskirčiau prie fiksuotojų nei kūrėjų. Kūrėjas man daugiau asocijuojasi su režisieriumi, kuriam būtina įsivelti į tam tikrą situaciją, tapti jos dalimi ir kurti kompoziciją, vadovaujantis savais principais. Mane domina ta konkreti akimirka, kurią sukuria pats gyvenimas. Gatvė man – geriausia scena, kurioje randi visko, ko tik širdis geidžia. Todėl ir mano darbai yra labiau dokumentinio pobūdžio. Jokių paslapčių ar išradimų čia nėra – ką matai tu, matau ir aš.

Kaip ir kasmet, taip ir šių metų Kovo 5-ąją dieną Portland’o Lietuvių Bendruomenė surengė Lietuvos Nepriklausomybės Dienos šventę, kurioje buvo paminėtos 1918 Vasario 16-oji ir 1990 m. Kovo 11-oji, dvi Lietuvos Valstybės atkūrimo datos.  Lietuvos Nepriklausomybės atgavimas yra šventiškai pagerbiamas tarp didesnių ar mažesnių Lietuvos bedruomenių visame pasaulyje. Portlande esanti bedruomenė yra viena iš mažesnių.

Šiais metais vietoje oficialiosios kalbos buvo parodyti keturi trumpametražiniai filmai: pirmajame - video medžiaga apie Lietuvos Nepriklausomybės Dienos šventimą Kaune 1925-aisiais; antrajame filme buvo rodoma ištrauka is dainų šventės Lietuvoje, kur buvo atliekama daina pagal Justino Marcinkevičiaus žodžius "Tėvyne dainų ir artojų"; trečiame filme buvo rodomi 1990-aisiais įvykusio balsavimo ir Nepriklausomybės pasirašymo kadrai, na o paskutinysis filmas visus supažindino su partizanine kova ir su Kalniškio mūšiu. Po istorinių filmų peržiūros prasidėjo kultūrinė programa. Tautinių šokių kolektyvas 'Aitvaras' smagiai ir nuotaikingai atliko tris lietuvių liaudies šokius, o vaikų ir jaunimo deklamuoti patriotiniai eilėraščiai apie Lietuvą sujaudino ne vieną saleje sėdėjusį šventės dalyvį.

Šiais metais atvyko daugiau nei 100 žmonių, įskaitant ir vaikus. Kultūrinei programai pasibaigus, visi vaišinosi ir bendravo tarpusavyje. Nuoširdus padėkos laiškas, atkeliavęs paštu primena, jog tokios šventės yra laukiamos ir reikalingos išeivijos lietuviams: “Mieli Ponai, visi kas dalyvavo Vasario 16-tos minėjime turėtų labai padėkoti už taip gražiai ir iškilmingai pravestą šventę. Programa buvo puikiausiai atlikta. Linkime tęsti tą darbą ir toliau tėvynės labui. Viso, Algis Garolis”
